Description

This is my attempt at Smaug. No he isn't perched upon the Lonely Mountain just in case any Hobbit experts point that out it is just some rocky rock thing.

Painted in Photoshop CS2 and a Whackit Intuos

Thanks for looking

WIP link below

For anyone who hasn't read the book and may question why the dragons belly is so sparkly and maybe think it needs to go ( I have had people say that ) well I am afraid Smaug has a sparkly gem encrusted belly in the book. That is all I shall say though as I will give it away if I say more ;)

This is my favorite painting from you. The dragon is very well drawn and designed, and the color palette is ridiculously good. The clouds themselves would even make for an excellent painting. Keep it going

Top marks well deserved.

Really wonderful! I see an improvement in the colors here... ;) The sky is also incredibly beautiful.
There's something with his tail though.... that somehow appears not to be connected to the dragon. Hmm... how shall I describe it, perhaps if you added a bit more of the tail above, just to give an idea what direction it takes, it could look better? But the rest is just great. I also enjoyed the wip!

Nicely done. Color scheme works well with this dragon perched upon the mountain. Powerful stance fits snugly with that of its' facial expression. Wings have a delicate natural appearance to them as well as a strength that comes from the stance. Also, the tears in wings adds to the overall dramatic feel of this painting. Main subject and mountain on which it stands is painted very well. Background may benefit from some more peaks to add to the sense of depth.

Thanks Daykan as always

ceogar, you raise a good point as I wouldn't want to give the book away BUT I have had a lot of people on other sites question why his chest/belly is so bright and sparkly and that it looks too much like jewels. I then have to inform them that they are jewels! I will write 'Spoiler' above.

Sandra, you are right. I did the tail last and as always I end up rushing the stuff I leave till last Thank you for your input. Glad you like the sky...I feel I struggle with clouds.

loneorbit, thanks for your great description, I appreciate that.

Very good work Andy. I agree with Sandra on the disjointed tail but only a minor point!
