Description

This is a speedpainting for me...I did it in an evening in about 4/5 hours with a couple of short breaks. I decided to see if I could work from scratch with no idea of what I was going to paint until pen hit tablet.

Photoshop 7.0

Wacom I 3

Thanks for looking

SUPER AMAZING™ Work, ANDYDUDEMASTERMAN!!!

It looks very cold and damp, the air seems raw. I always imagined dragons live in either these swamp-like forest environments, or in mountains. ;) Nice contrast between the small and the large character! They seem like good friends. Nice atmosphere!

Some of the colours might have been cleaner and a little stronger though, without ruining the atmosphere. The red skin on the dragon's wings, for example. It's like you blend in too much gray. Still, good painting!

thanks jonwheat, itzpapaloti, ersen, Sandra andDayken.

Jane I know what you mean I played around with the colours and in the end my eyes started playing tricks on me lol so I left it... but it was only a quickie. I didn't use any greys in this but I can see what you might mean about the wings. Thanks very much

wonderful atrwork for a normal user that is but seeing as you are elite it looks kinda unfinished especialy the dragons head

Avatar Andy--Jones

 02/16/08 @143

thanks Vincentdude ma man! Carlos, Gavin, ARZILLIER and opse.

opse 'normal' user lol there are normal users who are much better artists than the 'elites', so I don't really think of any of the artists any different anymore. Anyway it may look unfinished because it was a speed painting...well speed for me. Thanks

P.S I have only been an elite just over a month! so I am more normal user than elite

Story wise, I kinda got the notion that the 'little guy' may just be hitching a ride in a way, that the fishing rod and bait had more to do with luring the dragon than using at the swamp ... well that was my first impression, but I know, that seems unlikely (a dragon going after a measly fish on a hook :p )
I adore the looooooong sweeping design of the dragon... it looks like one of those dragons that in top flight could break the sound barrier. The semi-transparent wing skin is also a very nice touch ... I could see how that would be usefull for tucking the wings in tight durring a super fast high atmosphere dive towards an unexpecting target.
The super-moody overexposed water effect is also well placed.
A LOT of story from this speed painting ... it really is amazing how you can just come up with something like this on the fly in such a short period.
Top Mark well deserved.

Beautiful work. Full of mood and dreamy colours. And that wee dude sitting on the dragon is a neat idea.
I would only like to see it a bit darker. Specifically, some colour that fits nicely with the mood on the 'over-exposed' part of the water could add a lot. Then again, that wouldn't be a speed painting anymore. :p
Andy, seriously? You are normal?

Very cool dragon design. Sleek! ;) Neat concept too. I only wish I could create something that cool in 4-5 hours! :) Great job!

1 Question!... Wouldnt the Drinking Dragon scare off the Fish, Or is he one of these silent slurping dragons, HEHEHEEE.
The painting techniques are great! the colours are captivating.

Awesome work as usual Andy. I enjoy the background environment (mist, pastels) The colors you've chosen compliment the dragon.

What a refreshing take on the dragon theme. Beautiful silvery colors, atmospheric effects, and curving contours. Even the fishingpole and its hanging catch have a simple yet appealing quality.

opse I didnt think you were being mean at all I just never see myself as an elite artist...I am still the same as I was a few months back hahaha. Yeah it could be more refined too but like I said i didnt want to spend too long on this one...just a quickie. So no I didnt think you were being mean or over reacting at all.

And I know EXACTLY how that feels! The block! Something will click together before you know it!
